Margaret "Peggy" Tobin
Local historian, Margaret “Peggy” Tobin served over 50 years on the Bandera County Historical Commission and in her role as editor of the Bandera Historian researched, preserved, and wrote of the unique history Bandera County. In 1947, Peggy and husband Don established the Tobin Ranch when they moved to Bandera from San Antonio. Becoming active in the community, she also served on the Board of Trustees for the Frontier Times Museum. In 2011, Tobin received the Bandera County Historical Preservation Award for her distinguished volunteer service in preserving the history of Bandera County. The Tobins sponsored the Western Trail marker at Bandera Pass and Peggy was active in the restoration of the Bandera County Courthouse. Her work also led to the recognition of Bandera’s forgotten Hendrick Arnold-Bertha Tryon Cemetery, the final resting place for many early black residents. Peggy wrote a weekly column for the Bandera Bulletin on Bandera’s history, producing interesting, well documented articles. Future historians will benefit greatly from Peggy Tobin’s lifelong dedication to documenting the history of this area.
